Being a young startup company and learning what it takes to run a successful business has been a very unique and engaging experience. The fact that we are a two-person operation at this point means that we both have to wear all of the hats and have our hands in all of the pots and put our feet in all of the shoes and… you get the point. The best part of it all is that there is no red-tape, no politics, the only thing that matters is getting things done.
So, when we came up with the idea to get up and be at the beach for sunrise at 5:35 am to get some shots and footage for Sportspateria we just have to get up and do it. I don’t know how Cam is so chipper at 5:00 in the morning, but I will say, being at the beach for the break of dawn is definitely easy on the eyes. Watching the sun ascend its arc in to the pale blue sky like an enormous Sportspateria ball makes waking up at such a ridiculous hour not seem so bad. As I stood on the beach watching the sky above there was one thought that I just couldn’t get out of my head; why are their so many people swimming in Lake Ontario right now? It’s 5:30 and there are people putting on hazmat suits to go for a dip. I mean, the water looked nice but c’mon, it smells like a recycling bin out there. Maybe they’re not from around here.
The important thing is that I realized that if there are people who are willing to get up and swim in some sewage water before the vast majority of people get up to start their day then we most certainly should be able to do whatever it takes to get Sportspateria out to the world. I will try to limit the number of days where I have to wake up before 6:00 am, but at the end of the day, sometimes you just have to do it.
